Hip ultrasound in Pozzallo

What it is for
Assesses the peri-articular tendons (gluteal, iliopsoas), the trochanteric bursae and the soft-tissue structures of the hip in adults. Useful for trochanteric tendinopathy, bursitis, groin or lateral hip pain and post-trauma follow-up.
Why it is done
Useful for hip or groin pain, inflammation on the side (trochanter) or discomfort after trauma.
How it works
Gel on the groin, the side or both, depending on the pain. You move the hip if needed.

Is any preparation needed?
No. This scan needs no fasting and no preparation. If you have previous reports or scans, bring them with you: they help to compare and follow any change over time.

Does the hip ultrasound hurt?
No, it is painless. The probe is placed on the skin with a little gel. It uses ultrasound, not radiation: it is safe and can be repeated as often as needed, including during pregnancy and in children.
Is any preparation needed?
No. This scan needs no fasting and no preparation. If you have previous reports or scans, bring them with you: they help to compare and follow any change over time.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
For a private appointment it is not compulsory. If you have a referral, bring it along with any previous scans: it helps to focus the examination on the right clinical question.
How long does it take and when do I get the report?
The scan usually takes a few minutes. At the end I hand you the written report and explain in plain words what was found and whether further checks are needed.
