Renal artery Doppler ultrasound in Pozzallo

Renal artery Doppler ultrasound performed personally by the radiologist, by appointment, at the practice in Pozzallo (RG), Italy. Report and explanation at the end of the scan.

Renal artery Doppler ultrasound

What it is for

Studies the flow and any narrowing of the renal arteries. Indicated for high blood pressure of renovascular origin, known or suspected stenosis, or follow-up after renal vascular procedures.

Why it is done

Useful if you have high blood pressure that is hard to control and the doctor suspects a problem with the renal arteries.

How it works

You lie down, gel on the flank and abdomen. Doppler probe over the kidneys: you will hear the sound of the flow.

What I check

We look at whether the renal arteries are clear or narrowed and how the blood reaches the kidneys.

Is any preparation needed?

Yes: fasting for 6-8 hours is recommended, because a full stomach and bowel gas hide the liver, gallbladder and pancreas. You may drink water and take your usual medication. Bring any previous scans with you.

How much it costs

A single fee of €80 for every exam: includes the scan, the written report handed to you straight away and a spoken explanation. See fees

Frequently asked questions

Does the renal artery doppler ultrasound hurt?

No, it is painless. The probe is placed on the skin with a little gel. It uses ultrasound, not radiation: it is safe and can be repeated as often as needed, including during pregnancy and in children.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

For a private appointment it is not compulsory. If you have a referral, bring it along with any previous scans: it helps to focus the examination on the right clinical question.

How long does it take and when do I get the report?

The scan usually takes a few minutes. At the end I hand you the written report and explain in plain words what was found and whether further checks are needed.
